ITINERARY

Day 1. Cartagena

Assistance at the airport and transfer to the hotel in the walled city of Cartagena de Indias. Check in and free time. 

In the evening dinner at the restaurant where you have a nice view of the city of Cartagena at night, located in the historic center and ending with a night of cocktails in a clandestine place of the city (C).

Day 2. Cartagena

Transfer from the hotel to the pier to start the tour at 08:00 am. We will board a speedboat for approximately 45 minutes to San Pedro de Majagua Island, a hotel with one of the most privileged locations in the Rosario Islands. It has a private beach and services such as spa, snorkeling and diving. During the tour you will be able to appreciate the Bay of Cartagena. Upon arrival to the island, you will be received with a welcome cocktail and a tour of the facilities, during the day you can enjoy two beach areas and a typical lunch. Return to Cartagena Bay at 15:30 approximately. Return to the hotel. In the evening a delicious evening with live music, wine cellar and exquisite food, a restaurant with a special attention that denotes the love for cooking and catering.

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the pier to board the Amawaterways cruise ship, after settling into your cabin, enjoy a tour of the stunning Getsemaní neighborhood. With the vibrant colors of the houses and street art, as well as the delicious local delicacies that can be found throughout the area, this historic neighborhood is the ideal place to enjoy an unforgettable vacation. This historic district will delight all your senses. Upon returning to your ship, embark on your journey along the magical Magdalena River (B, C).

In the morning, visit the city of Palenque, the first free city in America. Founded by those who fled from slavery during the colonial era, the spirit and appearance of this town has been preserved through time. In 1713, the Spanish crown issued a Royal Decree officially freeing the inhabitants of Palenque from slavery. Immerse yourself in its culture and traditions, so deeply rooted that UNESCO declared Palenque an Intangible Heritage of Humanity. The importance of Palenque as an Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity is the music and rhythmic style that developed in this city,which you can enjoy during a special performance by local musicians. Later, visit Calamar. Located at the entrance of the Canal del Dique, this town was colonized in 1840. See historic sites such as the Church of the Immaculate Conception while touring this beautiful destination on (a taxi-bike for tourists).


Day 5. Santa Barbara de Pinto Mompox

Spend the morning in Santa Barbara de Pinto, located on the banks of the Mompox branch of the Magdalena River. Enjoy a walking tour of this traditional village, where you can see local monuments such as the Church of Santa Barbara and enjoy intricate handmade crafts created in the village. In the afternoon, you will arrive in the island town of Mompox, where you will be welcomed with open arms and lively music during an exclusive jazz show performed by local musicians (B,L,D).

A town frozen in time, Mompox embodies what many towns looked like in colonial times. Founded in 1540, this remote town became an important Spanish trading post. Some Spaniards found in Mompox a refuge to keep gold and other treasures protected from pirates. With this precious metal and the work of skilled Spanish artisans, beautiful artifacts were made. Since then, the city has become famous for its incredible filigree jewelry, which you can learn more about during your afternoon visit to this city. While visiting Latin America's largest inland island, travel through the incredible ecological region of the Pijiño Swamp, exploring the huge lake that is home to a variety of flora and fauna native to the region. In the afternoon, stroll through this historic city on a guided walking tour. With its impressive colonial churches, nature surrounding the town and local delicacies such as queso de capa and butifarra, Mompox will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of your trip along the magnificent Magdalena River. Farewell to Mompox before embarking on a scenic cruise along one of the most impressive stretches of the Magdalena River a picturesque part of the La Mojana region and arriving at the town of El Banco, located at the intersection of the Magdalena and Cesar rivers. The town, founded in a strategic location for both the natives and the Spanish, was destroyed several times in their struggles and then rebuilt on its ashes. In 1749, a freed black slave named José Domingo Ortiz led a group of settlers to this special place, carrying with him a statue of the Virgin Mary, setting this place as their new home. Thanks to this connection, the Virgin of Candelaria, a special invocation of the Virgin Mary, is especially venerated in this region. Embark on a guided walking tour of this incredible destination and learn more about its history as the birthplace of cumbia, an iconic genre of music and dance that has become popular around the world. What began as a courtship dance practiced by African slaves later incorporated American steps and European and African instruments and has become a worldwide sensation, especially popular in the Andean region of Colombia. Day 9. Nueva Venecia Barranquilla

In the morning, visit the Floating Town of Nueva Venecia, a charming town full of welcoming people, only accessible by boat. With its beautiful colonial houses, picturesque architecture and local sanctuary that protects native flora and fauna, this town highlights the beauty and warmth of Colombia. Witness its splendor as you tour the town. While here, explore this town and learn more about the life of its people during a guided tour. In the evening departure to visit the restaurant La Cueva, one of the favorite restaurants in his time of our writer and Nobel Prize winner Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Return to the hotel.
